I suppose you could say that today is Jason Voorhees' Birthday.
You have to remember that as iconic as the original film is, it started life as a independent horror film.
It was made for $550,000 and hated by the critics almost unanimously.
But, it went on to gross over $39.7 million dollars.
Somebody liked it.
And of course today is also the release of the series reboot.
I'm always skeptical of reboots, but I have been proven wrong before (Batman Begins, Battlestar Galactica).
So lets see how this does.
