I don't watch network TV anymore. I watch everything online. So does Spike TV or USA still show this movie like once a month?
This 1995 dramatic comedy-buddy film was directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh.
It starred Ice Cube (Craig Jones), Chris Tucker (Smokey), Nia Long (Debbie), the late Bernie Mac (Pastor Clever), Tommy Lister, Jr.(Deebo) and John Witherspoon (Willie Jones).
When the movie was released, critics pretty much liked it.
Which is kind of odd for a cult movie.
Friday grossed $6,589,341 on its opening weekend and now stands at about total of $28,215,918 worldwide.
Chris Tucker was nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance and Best Comedic Performance for the film at the 1996 MTV Movie Awards.
Ice Cube and Chris Tucker were nominated for Best On-Screen Duo.
Two sequels (Next Friday and Friday After Next) and an animated television series (on MTV2) were spawned from the original movie.
A soundtrack was released from the movie with songs by Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Scarface and Cypress Hill among others.
